Complex-Valued Neural Networks for Blind Equalization of Time-Varying Channels
نویسنده
چکیده
Most of the commonly used blind equalization algorithms are based on the minimization of a nonconvex and nonlinear cost function and a neural network gives smaller residual error as compared to a linear structure. The efficacy of complex valued feedforward neural networks for blind equalization of linear and nonlinear communication channels has been confirmed by many studies. In this paper we present two neural network models for blind equalization of time-varying channels, for M-ary QAM and PSK signals. The complex valued activation functions, suitable for these signal constellations in time-varying environment, are introduced and the learning algorithms based on the CMA cost function are derived. The improved performance of the proposed models is confirmed through computer simulations. Keywords—Blind Equalization, Neural Networks, Constant Modulus Algorithm, Time-varying channels.

Complex-Valued Neural Networks for Equalization of Communication Channels
The equalization of digital communication channel is an important task in high speed data transmission techniques. The multipath channels cause the transmitted symbols to spread and overlap over successive time intervals. The distortion caused by this problem is called inter-symbol interference (ISI) and is required to be removed for reliable communication of data over communication channels. I...
متن کاملRecursive least-squares backpropagation algorithm for stop-and-go decision-directed blind equalization
Stop-and-go decision-directed (S-and-G-DD) equalization is the most primitive blind equalization (BE) method for the cancelling of intersymbol-interference in data communication systems. Recently, this scheme has been applied to complex-valued multilayer feedforward neural network, giving robust results with a lower mean-square error at the expense of slow convergence. To overcome this problem,...
متن کاملAdaptive Decision Feedback Equalization for Digital Satellite Channels Using Multilayer Neural Networks
This paper introduces an adaptive decision feedback equalization using the multilayer perceptron structure of an M ary PSK signal through a TDMA satellite radio channel. The transmission is disturbed not only by intersymbol interference (ISI) and additive white Gaussian noise, but also by the nonlinearity of transmitter amplifiers. The conventional decision feedback equalizer (DFE) is not well-...
متن کاملCommunication Channel Equalization Using Complex-Valued Minimal Radial Basis Function Neural Network
A complex radial basis function neural network is proposed for equalization of quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals in communication channels. The network utilizes a sequential learning algorithm referred to as complex minimal resource allocation network (CMRAN) and is an extension of the MRAN algorithm originally developed for online learning in real-valued radial basis function (RBF)...
متن کاملBasis Expansion Models and Diversity Techniques for Blind Identification and Equalization of Time-Varying Channels
The time-varying impulse response of rapidly fading mobile communication channels is expanded over a basis of complex exponentials that arise due to Doppler effects encountered with multipath propagation. Blind methods are reviewed for estimating the bases’ parameters and the model orders. Existing second-order methods are critiqued and novel algorithms are developed for blind identification, d...
